Zizia apterais an Eastern US native wildflower that attracts butterflies and other pollinators with its flat clusters of brilliant, yellow blooms in late spring. It is more commonly known as “Heartleaf Alexanders”.
Zizia apterais similar in appearance toZizia aurea(Golden Alexanders), though it is set apart by its heart-shaped basal leaves. It makes an excellent native alternative to Queen Anne’s Lace.
For best results, plantZizia apteraHeartleaf Alexanders in moist to dry, well-drained soil. It does not usually need extra fertilization. It will grow in sun to part-shade.
