A pre- 1860 heirloom. This variety is similar to the purple bulb plant with bright purple skin. Crisp in texture with a mild, sweet cabbage-like flavor. The bulbs grow to about 2-3 across. The cabbage flavored flesh is white and delicious cooked or raw. Plants grow to 9-12 tall. Excellent source of vitamin c.
