The Karaka is one of Northland’s most lush looking native tree species and makes for a superb large indoor container specimen plant that handles very low light. Except, this time she’s petite and fancy AF with variegated leaves. A little less tolerant of low light than our wild-sourced green Karaka, give this specimen a well-lit space for best results. Glossy golden variegated foliage adds a bold dose of colour to your room, patio or garden.
Ideal forintermediate-experienced plant keepers or beyond.
Light Requirements: Bright Indirect Light – Partial Full Sun. Usually, a low-light lover when small, this variegated form requires much brighter light than its wild cousins.
Moisture & Soil Requirements: Unfussy. Prefers evenly moist soil with good drainage. Water when the first few centimetres of soil are dry. Increase the frequency in warmer months when new growth occurs.
Growth & Nutrients: Relatively upright growth while young without taking up floor space before branching out to grow as a small shrub or tree, if conditions allow.
Easily pruned to a desired size and shape.
Suits apartments or homes of any size & frost-free gardens of any size. Feed with a general-purpose fertiliser for containers at the start of spring each year.
Temperature, Humidity & Ambient requirements: Unfussy and adaptable but prefers warm, medium humidity & sheltered positions around other plants away from the wind, frost, harsh afternoon summer sunlight.
