Introducing Stipa arundinacea (Anemanthele lessoniana), also known as Pheasant’s Tail Grass. This unique medium-sized grass boasts a stunning mix of green, red, orange, and yellow foliage, making it a standout in any garden. Its tall and architectural growth adds a touch of elegance to any landscape, and it can thrive in a variety of conditions, from full sun to dry shade.
Standing at a height of 75cm and with a spread of 50cm, this grass is easily maintained and adds a pop of color with its bright green leaves that quickly turn red and orange. In the spring, it produces red-tinged flowers that float above the foliage, adding even more visual interest.
Stipa arundinacea is a hardy evergreen grass that can thrive in a variety of soil types, including moist, well-drained, loam, clay, and chalk. It can be planted in full sun to partial shade and is fully hardy once established (H4, -5 to -10).
This grass is best left unpruned, but in the spring, you can rake through it with your hands to remove older leaves and allow for new growth. Thin out any seedlings to help the plant thicken its clump. It will be supplied in a 2 litre pot, ready to add a unique touch to your garden.
