The fragrant white flowers of Sambucus nigra ‘Black Beauty’ are followed by black fruits and these are held above dark purple leaves. To maintain the intense leaf colour these shrubs need to be pruned very hard in spring.

Early summer flowering. Deciduous. Best in a sunny position in most garden soils. Height & spread: 6m x 6m (20′ x 20′) if not pruned hard in spring.
