Ficus benjamina ‘Reginald’
Ficus benjamina Reginald is a striking variegated form of the classic weeping fig, distinguished by its lime and gold-marbled foliage edged in soft green. This cultivar brings a light, tropical elegance to interiors, especially in rooms that need a bright focal point. Compared to standard green varieties, Reginald requires brighter conditions to maintain its variegation but still retains the graceful, arching habit and tree-like shape typical of the species.
Native to Southeast Asia and northern Australia, Ficus benjamina can grow to 23m indoors over time, especially with regular pruning to maintain a full canopy. Reginald adds a splash of colour to modern homes, verandas, or offices, and works beautifully in bright living rooms or reception areas.
Toxic if ingested. Irritating sap.
Care Instructions
Light: Bright, indirect light is essential to maintain variegation. Avoid deep shade. Morning sun is fine, but protect from hot afternoon rays.
Water: Allow the top 35cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid soggy soil or sudden overwatering.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate humidity. Mist occasionally or place near a pebble tray in dry conditions.
Temperature: Keep above 15C. Avoid drafts or rapid temperature changes.
Fertiliser: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
Pruning: Prune regularly to shape and encourage bushiness. Trim any reverted (fully green) growth.
Repotting: Every 23 years or when rootbound. Use a well-draining potting mix.
Pests: Watch for scale, spider mites, or thrips. Wipe foliage occasionally and inspect leaf undersides.
