Pulsatilla vulgaris has purple bell-shaped flowers with lots of yellow stamens that bloom on hairy stems over deeply cut, ferny, light green foliage. Also called Pasque Flower, it blooms in early spring. These early flowers are a great source of nectar for early honeybees. The flowers of Pulsatilla vulgaris are followed by showy, fluffy seed heads.

Pulsatilla vulgaris prefers mostly sun and average to moist soil that must be well-drained. Good in lime-rich soil. Pulsatilla appreciates adequate moisture during the heat of summer. The purple “petals” of Pasque Flower are actually sepals.
