A variety of the US native Switchgrass, Panicum ‘Purple Tears’ displays a cloud of soft gray panicle blooms in late summer, followed by unique purple seeds heads in fall. The seeds are a real treat for goldfinches and other small birds.

Panicum ‘Purple Tears’ Switchgrass is drought-tolerant and adaptive to poor and wet soils. It is happiest in moderately fertile soil. It is deer-resistant and a larval host for Skipper Butterflies.

Panicum ‘Purple Tears’ Switchgrass would be an excellent addition to rain gardens and cottage gardens!
