Rich, velvety petals of dramatically dark crimson are arranged in double rows on five-inch blossoms. Golden anthers and red filaments add eye-catching contrast. The unusual color, coupled with a burnished, lustrous glow, is prized by floral designers. This heirloom cross of P. officinalis x P. albiflora was introduced in 1956 by Walter Mains. Sturdy stems on a compact plant and an extra early bloom period, add to its outstanding qualities. Presented withthe Award of Landscape Merit for superior landscape qualities in 2009 and the American Peony Societys Gold Medal in 2010.
