Origanum vulgare ‘Aureum’ is a low growing perennial with fragrant foliage that turns a lovely golden yellow to chartreuse in spring and fall. Also known as Golden Oregano or Golden Marjoram, it spreads fairly quickly to form a dense, showy ground cover that lights up shady areas. This an ornamental, but edible, herb with small lavender flowers in summer that attract butterflies.

Origanum vulgare ‘Aureum’ prefers partial to full shade and moist to average, well-drained soil. It maintains its best overall appearance with protection from afternoon sun. It will be more golden in full sun, but will require additional moisture. Origanum ‘Aureum’ will tolerate moderate foot traffic. Space on 12″-18″ centers to create a ground cover.
