Orchid Cactus Clown makes a great hanging basket with its large, colorful, oversized blooms. The eye-catching flowers have white inner petals that are blushed with pink and raspberry and its outer petals are deep raspberry-red. In their native habitat, epiphyllums grow in trees and like partially filtered sun. In a home environment, its best grown in porous cactus soil. Once the plants have mature leaves and are ready to flower, dry down the soil starting in November until buds can be seen on last years growth. Another trick to flowering is to keep the plant below 60F but above freezing during the dry period. This chill and dryness stimulates flower bud formation.
