Ophiopogon planiscapis ‘Ebony Knight’ has distinctive purple-black, narrow strap-like leaves. Its summer stems of pink flowers develop into black berries. Also known as Black Mondo Grass, Ophiopgon planiscapis ‘Ebony Knight’ has a stoloniferous habit. A slow spreading, evergreen perennial, it is exceptional in the landscape, particularly when planted with bright chartreuse perennials, such as Hosta ‘Fire Island’ or Golden Creeping Oregano.

Ophiopogon planiscapis ‘Ebony Knight’ is also sometimes referred to as Ophiopgon ‘Nigrescens’.

Ophiopogon ‘Ebony Knight’ prefers partial to full shade and consistently moist, well-drained soil. It tolerates more sun with sufficient moisture.
