Rhipsalis baccifera

Rhipsalis baccifera is a soft, trailing jungle cactus with long, cylindrical green stems that drape and fork like a curtain of threads. Unlike most cacti, it naturally grows in the shaded canopies of tropical rainforests, making it well suited to indoor spaces with indirect light and consistent warmth. Its thin stems may produce small, white flowers followed by pearl-like translucent berries, giving rise to the common name mistletoe cactus. Fast-growing and spineless, this epiphytic species is perfect for hanging pots, high shelves or bathrooms with filtered light.

Originally native to Central and South America, R. baccifera is the only cactus species also found outside the Americas, with populations in parts of Africa and Sri Lankalikely spread centuries ago by migratory birds or humans.

Non-toxic to pets.

Care Instructions
Light: Bright, indirect light or dappled shade. Avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch the stems.
Water: Water when the top 23cm of soil is dry. Prefers slightly moist conditions but dont let it sit in water.
Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity. Ideal for kitchens or bathrooms.
Temperature: Keep above 12C. Protect from cold draughts and dry indoor heat.
Fertiliser: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted cactus or general houseplant fertiliser.
Pruning: Can be trimmed to shape or to remove tangled or damaged stems. Cuttings root easily.
Repotting: Every 23 years. Use a loose, well-draining mix with bark or perlite.
Pests: Occasionally attracts mealybugs or scale. Inspect joints regularly and treat early
