  • Low growing

This tiny little mint that hugs the ground is as aromatic as any other type and produces tiny little purple flowers in summer. It is edible but would take a very patient person to harvest the leaves with a pair of nail scissors! It is better grown in paving cracks, rockeries and across the top of walls and pots.

Plant Care

  • Height: Creeping
  • Type: Hardy
  • Aspect: Sun/shade
  • Soil: Any/alkaline
  • Flower colour: Purple
  • Flowering period: July – September

A tiny spreading mint that puts on a lot of growth over the summer months and is hardy, but tends to suffer if it somewhere too damp or where there is muddy splashback from raindrops. This is why it is best suited to paving cracks, rockeries and containers rather than planted into the ground. If there is some die back over winter, it only needs a small patch for it to romp away once spring arrives.

Usage

Uses
This is a lovely little mint for growing between paving stones or as a green cover on pots and containers. The tiny little mauve flowers are visited by bees and other pollinating insects. Although it is edible and has a peppermint flavour, it is an impractical to harvest (unless you use nail scissors!).
