Evergreen and multi-stemmed, this 8′ 12′ tall clumping shrub has large clusters of fragrant yellow flower spikes from October into winter, followed by dark purple fruits that birds eat. Hummingbirds are gratified to find its nectar during this lean time! Branches tend to whorl in tiers to make a very organized, geometric, and dense presence for a spectacular focal point with occasional fall and winter bright red leaves. With a few of its buddies, it would make a successful and fairly fast-growing dense screen…or should we say, formidable barrier, if you need to keep out the barbarian hordes.
