A glossy evergreen plant with small deep green leaves. It has been trained into a short standard which you can trim to maintain at the same size or allow to grow into a larger head. Any trimming is best done in late April and again in late August. It will grow in a range of acidic soils except waterlogged and thrives in both sun and shade. This plant makes a great alternative for those who have been affected by the Box caterpillar.

• Here at Polhill we recommend that you use a good quality ericaceous compost mixed with your garden soil when planting in the ground. If going into containers then a good quality ericaceous compost or John Innes ericaceous compost is recommended. It is also a good idea to feed annually in the spring with an ericaceous fertiliser.
