Chinese Yam Dioscoreaceae

Perennial hardy climber with fleshy rootstock (yam) and heart-shaped leaves. The yam is eaten in China and is cooked like potatoes. The tubers may take two or three years to develop to a suitable size for harvest.

The photograph shows the plant in late summer with the edible bulbils.
