Introducing the Cynara cardunculus Green Globe, also known as Cardoon vert globe. This herbaceous perennial is truly magnificent and deserves a place in any garden. Its unique leaves start off silvery grey with deeply divided edges, forming a large clump that maintains its silvery color as it matures. But the real showstopper is the large, globular purple thistle heads that tower above the foliage on stiff and stout grey stems. As the flower heads unravel, they reveal fine, pale purple tubular petals that come together to create a globe of purple.
This plant is not only beautiful, but also a fine and elegant addition to any border. It is best grown in a large open area where it can spread, requiring about 1m of space. It can thrive in most well-drained soils and prefers full sun. The stems can even be left through winter to provide shelter for insects and add interest to the garden.
The Cynara cardunculus Green Globe is easily maintained at a height of 2m and a spread of 1m. Its foliage is a stunning grey-green color, while its flowers are a vibrant purple. It blooms in the summer and is fully hardy once established, with a hardiness rating of H4 (-5 and below). This herbaceous perennial is supplied in either a 9cm pot or 2 Litre pot, so you can choose the best option for your garden.
