Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’ is a deciduous shrub that is known for its beautiful purple foliage and fluffy, smoke-like flowers. The leaves are oval-shaped and emerge in spring as a rich maroon red. They gradually mature to dark purple-red or purplish-black throughout the summer. In late summer, the plant produces small, insignificant flowers that are followed by the signature smoke-like plumes. The plumes are made up of tiny, thread-like hairs that are pink to purplish-pink in color.

Planting: When planting this plant in the open ground it is best planted with a mixture of your garden soil and a good quality Tree and Shrub Compost. If planting in a container then we recommend John Innes No3 Compost or a good quality Multipurpose compost. These plants should be fed in Spring and late Summer with a good quality granular fertiliser.
