Introducing Choisya dewitteana Apple Blossom, a unique and hardy variety Raised by Peter Moore, a Longstock introduction:www.bredbypetermoore.co.uk. With finely cut scented leaves, this plant produces an abundance of pink and white flowers in the summer, with attractive pink buds in early summer. Unlike other Choisya varieties, Apple Blossom boasts strong pink flowers that fade to white. It thrives in shade or 50% morning sun and should be protected in winter when temperatures drop below -5. While young plants may take a few years to flower, once established, they will bloom every spring. Prune in late spring to maintain shape.
Traditionally a spring bloomer, some varieties may also flower again in the autumn. Best grown in semi-shade, but can tolerate full sun, this plant responds well to general feeding and mulching. It prefers moist, well-drained soil, but does not like to be too wet, so good drainage is important. With a height and spread of 1.5m, Choisya dewitteana Apple Blossom is a compact shrub that adds a pop of color to any garden.
With its dark green foliage and beautiful pink and white flowers, this shrub is a standout in any landscape. It is fully hardy once established, with a hardiness rating of H4 (-5 and below). Available in either a 9cm pot or 2 Litre pot, choose your preferred size when ordering.
Choisya is a small genus of evergreen plants, originally from Mexico and the southwest USA. The most well-known species, ternata, was introduced in 1825 and is commonly known as Mexican Orange Blossom for its sweetly scented flowers. However, the most interesting varieties have come from cultivation, such as breeding and sports. Peter Moore’s 1982 introduction, Choisya Aztec Pearl, has dissected leaves, while C.White Dazzler, C.Goldfingers, and C.Apple Blossom are all impressive varieties with unique characteristics. Another popular variety is Choisya ternata Sundance, with bright golden yellow leaves. All of these Choisya plants thrive in shade and are evergreen, making them a must-have for any garden.
