We first saw this rare beauty blooming in the Smithsonian Garden in Washington DC. It was love at first sight. The deep purple to almost black foliage has a nice bushy shape and the prolific dark pink flowers mature to purple cotton balls that break open to reveal the fluffy, white cotton. Rarely seen in home gardens, this plant gives bragging rights to those gardeners who yearn to grow some unusual plants in their summer garden.
