This is a vigorous, bushy deciduous shrub with rounded, deep reddish-purple leaves which become deep red in autumn; small red-tinged pale yellow flowers are followed by glossy red berries. Best grown in sun or partial shade in a moist yet well drained position.

• When planting this shrub in the open ground it is best planted with a mixture of your garden soil and a good quality Tree and Shrub Compost. If suitable for containers then we recommend John Innes No3 Compost or a good quality Multipurpose compost. These plants should be fed in Spring and late Summer with a good quality granular fertiliser.
