Sempervivums are rose-shaped cuties commonly known by a couple of different nicknames: hens and chicks and houseleeks. They multiply to form mats of colorful rosettes, turning up the vibrancy especially during cooler months. Some are even delightfully hairy. That webby stuff is A-OK! Theyre perfect as rock garden, dish garden, and potted plants. These mountain dwellers are recognized for their incredible resilience and cold tolerance, especially as succulent plants. In habitat many are quite happy in winter under an insulating blanket of snow. Sempervivums all like good air circulation. Most like partial sun to light shade outdoors, particularly during the warmer months. They will be unhappy and lose their characteristic color and shape unless given lots of bright light when kept indoors.
