This is a small, monopodial epiphyte native to Southeast Asia. Found at moderate elevations, it is valued for its compact, fan-shaped form and its ability to produce a burst of intensely colored, fiery red-orange flowers.

  • Light: Very bright light is essential for good flowering. Provide direct morning sun or strong filtered light. Leaves should turn slightly reddish under ideal conditions.
  • Temperature: Warm. Daytime temperatures should be 70-85F (21-29C), with night temperatures around 60-70F (16-21C).
  • Humidity: Moderate to high (60-80%). Excellent air movement is necessary.
  • Watering: Water frequently during growth, allowing roots to dry quickly. Best grown mounted or in slatted baskets due to the open root system, often requiring daily watering in warm, bright conditions. Reduce water slightly in winter.

Additional Notes

This orchid is famous for its erect, densely packed spikes of flowers, typically blooming in late spring/summer. The brilliant red-orange to scarlet color makes for a stunning, long-lasting display and is a highly desirable trait used in breeding colorful Vanda hybrids.
