This naturally occurring hybrid between Hairy Manzanita (A. columbiana) and the ground cover Kinnikinnick (A. uva-ursi) forms a dense, low shrub with grey-green foliage. Profuse clusters of small white urn-shaped flowers with a pink blush are followed, in summer, by surprisingly large red berries. ‘Martha Ewan’ is a selection, found by Dan of Xera Nursery, coming from the Oregon coastal town of Manzanita! It’s happy in full sun OR partial shade and doesn’t mind a bit more water as long as the soil is very well-draining.
