Anthurium (nigrolaminum ) Red Vein Dark Phoenix is a complex hybrid that merges the characteristics of a previous unknown nigrolaminum cross with Anthurium Red Vein Dark Phoenix (RVDP). This lineage includes genetics from nigrolaminum, papillilaminum variegata, and Ace of Spades, resulting in dark, textured subvelvety leaves.

Growth is compact. The hybrid expresses strong vein definition and sheen when grown under high humidity and consistent warmth. Leaf texture is firm and subvelvety, with a dark background that is a deep green colour, depending on light and age.

Native to:
This is a cultivated hybrid with ancestral origins in Central and South America. The nigrolaminum parent contributes traits from Ecuadorian and Colombian species, while RVDP includes papillilaminum variegata from Panama and Ace of Spades selections. These species come from lower montane tropical forests with high humidity and filtered light.

Water:
Water when the top third of the substrate has dried. Use a well-draining, airy mix with orchid bark, perlite, and some sphagnum moss or coco coir. Ensure that pots have drainage and do not allow water to collect at the base. The roots prefer consistent moisture but will decline quickly in soggy or compacted media.

Light:
Bright filtered light is essential. Avoid direct midday sun, which can fade colour and damage the delicate leaf surface. Morning or late afternoon light is tolerated. Inadequate light will reduce leaf size, dull the velvety surface, and cause venation to fade. Supplemental lighting may be helpful during darker months.

Humidity:
High humidity, ideally between 7080%, supports optimal growth and colour. Low humidity can cause brown leaf edges and reduced sheen. Because of its size and requirements, this hybrid is well-suited for growth in terrariums or greenhouse-style cabinets. Misting and pebble trays are less effective than a consistent ambient humidity source.

Temperature:
Best kept between 1827C. Avoid exposure to cold drafts or temperatures below 16C. The hybrid benefits from stable conditions without sudden fluctuations, which can affect both foliage development and colour expression.
