Anthurium metallicum is a distinctive species showcasing remarkable foliar characteristics that make it highly sought after by collectors for its elongated, velvety leaves with striking white venation patterns.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light to maintain the vibrant leaf coloration and support healthy development. Can adapt to lower light conditions but avoid direct sunlight as it can cause leaf burn.
  • Temperature: Cooler growing preference with ideal conditions ranging from 10-25C (50-77F). Protect from temperatures below 10C (50F) and cold drafts.
  • Humidity: High humidity levels of 60-80% are essential. Use a humidifier, pebble tray with water, or group with other humidity-loving plants to create a microclimate.
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water when the top layer feels slightly dry to the touch with excellent drainage to prevent waterlogging and root rot.
  • Soil: Well-draining, airy potting mix. A blend of orchid bark, peat moss, perlite, and charcoal provides the right balance of moisture retention and aeration.
  • Fertilization: During growing season (spring and summer), feed every 4-6 weeks with balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer. Avoid over-fertilizing to prevent salt build-up.
  • Maintenance: As a baby plant, repot according to growth until it reaches medium size. Provide adequate water, light, and fertilizer, but use less than for adult plants to avoid damaging development.

Additional Notes:

This young specimen already shows the characteristic elongated leaves with developing velvety texture and emerging white venation. The seedling demonstrates excellent potential for thriving in cooler conditions, promising to develop into the distinctive cool-growing species prized by collectors.
