Water:
Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Allow the top few centimetres of the potting mix to dry slightly between waterings. Consistently soggy roots can lead to rot.
Light:
Provide bright, indirect or filtered light. Avoid strong, direct sun, especially in the afternoon, as it can scorch velvety leaves. Gentle morning light or diffused light through a sheer curtain is ideal. If lighting is too low, growth will slow and leaf colour or vein contrast may fade.
Humidity:
High humidity (around 7080%) is preferred to mimic tropical conditions. Smaller plants can thrive in a humidity dome or greenhouse cabinet, while mature plants may benefit from humidifiers or pebble trays. Maintain good air circulation to prevent fungal problems in humid environments.
Temperature:
Ideal temperatures range between 1828 C. Avoid drops below about 15 C, as cold stress can damage foliage. Keep plants away from drafts, heater vents, and cold window surfaces during winter.
