It is a useful plant for any garden, with some varieties being tougher than others. The narrower leaved varieties are generally more hardy, behaving like herbaceous perennials and losing their leaves over winter. The larger leaved varieties, on the other hand, tend to keep their leaves and require protection from frost or are better suited to coastal areas.
