This plant is part of the Andiphilum section, characterized by its terrestrial or lithophytic growth habits, coriaceous leaves, and persistent cataphylls. The species was formally described in September 2022, with its name referencing its type locality near Los Cayos del Diablo on Guatemala’s Caribbean coast.
