Agapanthus Big Blue (African Lily) is a unique and stunning addition to any garden. This low-growing variety is perfect for the front of borders, edges, and as a specimen plant. Its hybrid mix produces a range of flower colors, from dark blue to white, with the majority being a beautiful pale blue. The plant will bloom from May to September, creating a spectacular display.
With a height of up to 1.5m and a spread of 80cm, Agapanthus Big Blue is easily maintained and features glossy green, strap-like leaves. This evergreen plant is hardy once established in a sheltered spot, with a hardiness rating of H4 (tolerating temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius). It is supplied in a 9cm or 2 Litre pot, depending on your preference.
Agapanthus, also known as the African Lily, is a useful and versatile plant for any garden. While some species may be more tender, the Headbourne hybrids are generally tough and behave more like herbaceous perennials. The larger-leaved varieties are better suited for coastal areas, while the narrower-leaved ones are hardier.
This plant can thrive in any soil type, as long as it is well-drained and receives plenty of sunlight. It is not a particularly hungry plant, but it will benefit from a feed in late spring and up to flowering. To encourage healthy leaves and flower buds, restrict the root growth by keeping the plant root-bound in a pot.
Agapanthus Big Blue produces rounded flower heads with a slight umbrella shape, ranging in color from white to light blue, dark blue, and even purple. After the flowers have gone, large black seeds will develop in their place. To prolong the flowering period, trim the stems back to the foliage once they have finished blooming.
Don’t miss out on the unique and beautiful Agapanthus Big Blue. Order yours today and enjoy its stunning display of flowers from June to September.
