A low growing variety with a summer flowering period, Geranium sanguinium Album is a unique and beautiful addition to any garden. Its attractive fine foliage produces a small mound through spring, from which lovely open white flowers are produced. What sets Album apart is its pure white color, while still retaining all the attributes of the species. This hardy herbaceous perennial is easily maintained at a height of 30cm and spread of 50cm, with dark green foliage and white flowers. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil and can tolerate full sun to partial shade. With a hardiness rating of H7 (-15 and lower), it is a reliable and resilient plant.
The Geranium genus includes both greenhouse geraniums (officially known as Pelargoniums) and hardy perennial geraniums, also known as Crane’s Bill. This particular variety falls into the latter category, and is generally easy to grow and care for. Ranging from small alpines to large perennials, these plants are versatile and can be used in a variety of garden settings. They are happy in most conditions, except for very wet and boggy areas, and mainly flower from spring to late summer. Their low growth habit makes them ideal for ground cover and they work well at the front of borders.
For more vigorous varieties, trimming back after the first flowering can encourage regrowth and a second round of blooms. In winter, the plant will die back, but a good mulch will provide all the nutrients it needs to shoot away in the spring. With its unique white color and easy maintenance, Geranium sanguinium Album AGM is a must-have for any garden. It comes in a 2 litre pot, ready to be planted and enjoyed.
