Agave parrasana, the cabbage head agave, is a compact (1-2 ft wide/tall), hardy (down to 10F), slow-growing evergreen succulent from northeastern Mexico. It features a dense, symmetrical rosette of broad, blue-green leaves with distinctive bud imprints, stout teeth, and a sharp terminal spine. Mature plants send up a tall (12-20 ft) flower stalk with red-to-yellow flowers before dying. It needs full sun, well-draining soil, and minimal watering, thriving in drought conditions. Handle with care due to toxic sap and sharp spines. Ideal for rock gardens and xeriscapes.
