Vinca difformis, also known as Intermediate Periwinkle, is a truly exceptional ground cover plant that thrives in shady areas. Its large, light green leaves and delicate pale blue flowers make it a stunning addition to any garden. Unlike other Vinca varieties, this plant has a longer flowering period, from March to September, once established. It can easily reach a height of 50cm and spread up to 1m, making it a great choice for filling in empty spaces.
This hardy shrub is fully established at H4 (-5 and below) and can grow in a variety of soil types, including moist, well-drained, sandy, loam, chalk, and clay. It can also thrive in both full sun and full shade, making it a versatile option for any garden. You can choose between a 9cm pot or a 2 Litre pot when ordering.
Vinca (Periwinkle) plants are perfect for all areas of the garden, whether it’s a shady woodland, front of border, or an exposed bank. They are mostly evergreen and have a creeping habit, making them ideal for ground cover. While some varieties, like Vinca major, can be invasive, Vinca minor and Vinca difformis are less so. Vinca difformis falls somewhere in between the two, making it a great choice for those looking for a balance between coverage and control.
