Native to China and Japan, this sub-shrub resembles a small Hydrangea serrata with very loose, open flower clusters at branch ends. The individual white blooms are open, almost flat, bowls, some of which on each plant are sterile and some complete. The complete blooms have fluffy, yellow centers and bloom from June to July. The long, dark green leaves are lance-shaped and turn glowing gold in fall. A striking, unusual specimen.
