They grow in a clump with multiple trunks, heading mostly upright formation until they are allowed to grow very large. In the garden they require a warm, sheltered part shade spot eventually growing into a V-shaped clump 1.5-2m across. Not a bamboo but named so for the beautiful cane-like stems produced and gradually exposed as the shoots age.
