Silene regia has small eye-catching clusters of scarlet flowers which attract hummingbirds and Black Swallowtail butterflies. Smaller insects can get stuck on the sticky leaves and stems. This North American native is easily grown in home landscapes, but is relatively rare in the wild due to habitat loss.
Commonly known as Catchfly, it prefers full sun to part shade, and tolerates drought and shallow, rocky soil. It grows slowly and may take several years to reach its full height, though it will bloom while still small.
