An excellent woodland denizen of decidedly good vigor, this Chinese Mayapple has one or two medium green umbrella-like leaves of good substance. For some reason, the shape of the leaves always reminds me of White Rhino tracks in the sandy soils of the South African bush- just before the charge! Anyway, although the species of this Podophyllum is in flux, the one thing we do know is that it’s a keeper with a dense collar (sometimes 20!) of reddish-brown down-facing flowers nestled just under the leaves.
Our thanks to Darrell Probst for venturing out to collect the seed of this gem.
