Phlox stolonifera ‘Sherwood Purple’ produces loose clusters of fragrant, purple-blue flowers on upright stems over creeping foliage. ‘Sherwood Purple’ is a vigorous cultivar that is long blooming. Its early spring blooms will attract queen bumble bees and other early pollinators. It is an excellent semi-evergreen perennial, spreading ground cover for woodland settings, creating attractive drifts of color when in bloom.

Phlox stolonifera is native to the eastern United States from Maine to Ohio and south along the Appalachians to Alabama and Georgia. It naturally occurs in deciduous woodlands, along stream banks and on shaded rocky slopes, mostly in the mountains.

Phlox stolonifera ‘Sherwood Purple’ prefers light shade and moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Bloom stems may be cut back after flowering to prevent self-sowing.
