Stipa gigantea is a terrific grass variety with a very long season of interest. Known as the ‘Oat Grass’ this variety produces a dense clump of narrow green leaves which is topped by very elegant open panicles of silvery spikelets. During June anthers hang from the spikelets and once over the flowers dry on the stiff stems and rattle, as they gently sway in the wind, well into late summer.
Summer flowering. Evergreen. Best in a sunny position in most garden soils. Height & spread: 250cm x 90cm (8′ x 3′).
Due to the length of the flowering spikes, they will be removed prior to packing and dispatch.
