Bird of Paradise, orStrelitzia reginae, is a tropical flower native to South Africa. They’re commonly used as landscape plants in tropical & subtropical areas around the world – including in my town in Southwest Florida, the inspiration for this painting.Strelitzia are members of the Zingiberales family, making them closely related to Bananas, Gingers, and Calatheas.
