If you are familiar with the much more common and only other member of the genus, U. tuitensis, then you still really have no idea what this plant is like! Like U. tuitensis it is a Mexican endemic. A fairly giant grower that can easily reach over 3 feet across with very stiff, spiny, arching leaves, glossy-green above, silvery-green below, in a widely spreading rosette. The inflorescence is very showy and large, resembling some of the helicoid Billbergias with large pink bracts and snow white ovaries. A spectacular plant for landscape use or for any spacious growing area.
