A large growing lithophyte from Peru. Forming an open rosette shape with leaves up to four inches wide it is green but blushes red in strong light. The leaves are coated with a waxy powder, similar toCatopsisand someAlcantarea, which is thought to protect it from the hot desert sun. The inflorescence is heavily branched with long, thick branches about eight inches long, on a stout scape that becomes semi-pendant with the weight of the branches. Flowers are very dark blue, almost black. We grow this species potted in a well-draining media. It can take many years to mature and flower.
